President’s Trophy
When Little Waltham Gardening Club was first formed, the President, the late Dick Balfour donated a rose bowl to be used as a trophy to encourage members to take part in a monthly competition. The Competition became known as the ‘President’s Trophy’
The Competition takes place at every evening meeting September to March inclusive. A list of subjects for the competition is given out to members at the May meeting and members are invited and encouraged to enter.
Everyone attending the meeting is asked to look at the entries and note the one considered best on a prepared form next to the entries. The marks are accumulated over the 6 meetings and the winner is the entrant with the highest total of marks.
The winner is presented with the President’s Trophy at the AGM (March meeting ) and holds the trophy for one year.
We have found that this competition adds extra interest to the meeting and encourages friendly rivalry.
The winner of the (2020) President’s Trophy was won by Jean Hatley who received the most marks accumulated over the 6 meetings.
Next years subjects for the Trophy are as follows:
September – 3 homegrown tomatoes
October – 5 perennial blooms same or different varieties (bring own vase)
November – Homegrown vegetable including marrows, squashes and pumpkins
December – Festive Table Centre.
February – 1 stem of anything in bloom in your garden
March – Bowl or pot of homegrown spring bulbs
