Report – June 2022

Culinary Herbs and their Uses was the title of our June meeting held at Little Waltham Memorial Hall. The speaker, Zsuzsa Serer worked for Herbal Haven for a number of years and gained much experience before diversifying and setting up her own business to include orchids and tropical plants.

Zsuzsa spoke very knowledgeably about many herbs, some of which she brought with her, including winter savoury which is included in some Cumberland sausages and can be used instead of pepper in recipes. Thyme, mint, parsley and lemon verbena were also mentioned. She had brought myrtle (called the plant of love) advising that since Queen Victoria, it is now included in the majority of English royal wedding bouquets. It is native to Sardinia and is a lovely plant which enjoys full sun.

The next meeting for the Little Waltham Gardening Club is on the 15th June and is an afternoon visit to Furzelea garden in Danbury. Our meeting in July is on the 13th and is an afternoon outing to Bridge End Gardens in Saffron Walden. On August 4th we visit the Gardens of Easton Lodge.
